University Park Airport 

Runaway Maintenance Building

The airport's runway expansion prompted the need for more maintenance vehicles and a building to house them  The building's proximity to the terminal required aesthetic consideration that would prove difficult to achieve in a pre-engineered structure.

The design called for an airfoil-shaped standing seam metal roof and walls clad with ribbed metal siding.  Maintenance vehicles access the runway through upward acting bifold doors clad to match the building.  The building contains six storage bays and includes provisions for vehicle washing. It received a citation for design excellence and another for innovative use of building materials.
